Environmental education is a vital step in combating climate change and its many negative impacts. Some of the most influential individuals who have the ability to make a great impact are the youth of society, and it is important that they understand their personal role in protecting the planet as well as how they can limit their ecological footprint. As an educated young adult pursuing a degree in Environmental Science with a focus on conservation, I believe that I have a responsibility to spread what I have learned with as many people as possible, and think that starting with a group of young students would be a mutually beneficial experience for both myself and the greater community. To fulfill this, I plan to visit and work with a local group of elementary school students to teach them about sustainability and help them improve their school’s composting, recycling, and gardening projects that have been unsuccessful over recent years.
