Back to the tips.

As Americans, we take pride in our green, luscious lawns. The grass may be greener on the other side, but it also requires a large amount of water. Here are a few tips to more efficiently take care of your lawn and garden:

  1. Practice xeriscaping. Xeriscaping involves choosing plants to minimize the need for water. While it may require more planning, the results can often be breathtaking.
  2. Collect some rainwater. Get yourself a snazzy new rain barrel. Better yet, make a rain barrel! Place it under the downspout, and use this to water your plants.
  3. Also, if you do need to water, make sure you time it for the coolest parts of the day. Avoid losing water to evaporation during the hot afternoon sun, and your garden or lawn early in the morning or late in the evening.
