I knew Iceland was going to be dramatic and unlike anything I have seen before, but I had no idea how active and alive this land really is. A world of constant change and activity, every day is unlike the last and I will never know what is right around the corner.  Learning about Iceland’s geology was very fascinating to me. We are living on the edge of a tectonic plate, right near the Mid-Atlantic Ridge! Solheimar is right in the center of a seismic zone, so there are probably hundreds of earthquakes everyday that go by unnoticed. I learned that the island can experience an average of 500 earthquakes in a single week! The two plates are diverging, meaning they are moving away from each other. This causes the Island to ever so slowly increase in size. Iceland has many active volcanoes that are constantly reshaping the Earth. It is sometimes hard to imagine I am on a volcanic island when it has been so windy and cold! I am truly in the land of fire and ice!

This place has shown me that change can happen so quickly, so soak in an experience while you’ve got it! There is no knowing what magic will happen next.
