For my project, I want to implement a small vegetable garden in the backyard of my home in Delmar, NY. It will start out small, but grow over time. This garden is going to be accessible to the people in my home as well as the neighboring home. I’d like it to be a place where two different households can contribute and benefit. In my town, there is a very high deer population. When designing this garden, I want to pay special attention to making it safe from wildlife, without having to use any chemicals. In addition, I’d like to work with my mom to eliminate the pesticides that she has applied to the lawn each year. Overall, I want to implement a project that informs people around me on environmentally friendly gardening techniques and brings them closer to their food system in a way that buying your vegetables from a store does not.
