How To Apply

Ready to start your CELL adventure? To apply for a CELL study abroad program, you will need to submit the following items:

The Application

Please complete the application first – this allows us to match your references, transcript, and other application materials with your file.

The CELL application can be found as a printable PDF or as an electronic application. Please complete either form. If you choose the printable PDF, please send it to us via email or snail mail. Be sure to include your $25.00 application fee, transcript, and references,

The Essays

As part of your application, you will be asked to complete three essays. If you are submitting an online application, please be sure to complete the essays before beginning the application – we do not currently have the capability to save an incomplete application. Please answer three of the following four essay questions in the ESSAYS section of your application:

  1. Why would you like to participate in a CELL semester program?
  2. Please share an example of what you have learned from a multi-cultural experience, or from a situation where you have interacted with people from different backgrounds.
  3. If you could change one thing in the world, what would you change?
  4. What do you feel is the most critical sustainability issue facing our planet?

Additionally, if you would like to apply for a CELL scholarship, you will be asked to complete an additional essay on the following topic:

  • How would you best embody the mission of CELL?

The References

To complete your application, we request two references: one from an academic reference and one from a character reference. Instructions for your references can be found at this link: www.cellonline.org/references. Just send your references the link, and ask them to submit a reference at their earliest convenience.

Who can be an academic reference?
A professor, instructor, or anyone else that has experience with you in an academic setting.

Who can be a character reference?
An employer, coach, or anyone else that can speak to your passion, integrity, and character.
